12)Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 Review
A great companion you want on Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165
I order my Acer Aspire One 10 / 1 netBook (AOD150-1165) on 28th February 2009 by Amazon. Item sent on 2 March and arrived on 14 March.
If only I order Sapphire Blue color was available, but I am happy to sapphire blue. It seems very attractive. I would normally either black or white model, but I am happy that they are not available:) The only thing I regret is that there may be fingerprints, and I try not touch the glossy surfaces.
If you unpack the box and hold it on your page, you will identify, as may be (especially if you were a nail in 17 "laptop), which is not portable and ideal for all small aircraft code tables (or knees)
The 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor is a single-core processor, but it is quite caustic and can be more than sufficient for most office-type use. The netBook with w/SP3 installed Windows XP instead of Vista for me if it makes you react as well as (or better) than a Core 2 Duo based laptop with Vista.
The unit is very quiet. The noise of the fan or hard disk is minimal. The fan is not often Kick in normal use. It might be more active with some serious CPU / HD activity tasks.
The screen is 1024x600 Crystal Bright (bright) type LCD, but very easy to read under different lighting conditions. It is an integrated suite of 0.3 million megapixels (640x480) Webcam and microphone built into the title screen. Ideal for using a video-conference by phone, like Skype software, etc. BTW, for some vertical space on the desktop, you can taskbar on Windows XP auto-hide and pop-up, if Moving the cursor over the edge of the screen.
The keyboard is quite well developed. Unlike some competing models, the Shift, Control, Alt, Tab, Enter, Backspace, all the buttons in the right places. At first I found the keys a little small, but after a few days of use, get used to fight and avoid both. The arrow keys, would be a bit bigger than here and there at the bottom right of your keyboard.
The touchpad is a Synaptics model and is very configurable. Like any other, it is a bit small, but acceptable works well. It would have been better if he explains. Key touch is another story. They are just below the touchpad, but instead of two buttons, independent designers to a bar on the two keys. Therefore, the keys much harder to push. I would have preferred, two keys. I think the biggest complaint on the netBook. However, the buttons, we can smooth over time. I have soft pressing of both ends of the button bar at the same time several times. I do several times before using the laptop everyday. It was not as desperate.
Now I can try me for the build-in keyboard and mouse, but those who work can still make regular USB keyboard and USB mouse. For example, Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 is perfect.
You can press the touch pad instead of the button. The Synaptics touchpad is very configurable. You can one corner of the touchpad to the right of the mouse and elsewhere, would be left.
The speakers this is netBook. They are strong enough and the sound quality is very good. However, since the opening speaker netBook bottom, if you continue on a soft surface like a carpet or the bed of sound can be steamed, as openings is locked. This is not a very good picture of him on the smooth surfaces for a long period, because it is blocking the fan and fan as well mean that the netBook overheating.
There is 1 GB DDR2 SODIMM RAM on the module installed (I was Samsung). There is no On-Board-soldered memory (the description on Amazon is incorrect and is on the old 8.9 "model). The store is easily expandable to 2GB by replacing the SODIMM module. I update memory 10.1 "Aspire One 2GB of installing a" Mushkin 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2-667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory - Retail Module (Mushkin Reference # 991618). It works great! Please note that this module has CAS4 (4-4-4-12) is more common CAS5 (5-5-5-16). In other words, it is a little faster memory, because they are least expected, they say:)
The hard disk is a Hitachi HTS543216L9A300, 160GB 2.5 "5400rpm, Serial ATA, 8 MB cache hard drive. It is quite quiet. I think there is enough space for most applications. Pour plus d ' information, you can an external USB hard drive or hard disk drive itself can be updated almost as easy as the RAM.
The chip wireless (AR5007EG) is supported and Atheros 802.11b / g. The area is fairly decent. I had no problem connecting to my wireless access point at home, work or other free public hotspots. I have wifi in Starbucks, Barnes and Noble bookstore and McDonald's, among others (I WiFi in those places, because I-AT & T DSL). Some users report that some problems. The Atheros driver is installed by default is old (version 7.6.0.260). The last I've found for the AR5007EG wireless chipset is version 7.6.1.244 (from 2/25/2009) and I think that resolve, that some people experience. (Like the comfort, I have the instructions at the end of this review to access the updated drivers) characteristics of the device indicate that the installation of Wi-Fi chips for maximum energy savings. In fact, as the RAM and hard drive, the wireless module is also available. Who knows, someone (or Acer) would be a replacement of the 802.11n standard or a module WiFi + Bluetooth Combo.
There is no build-in Bluetooth capability. If you use an interface with Bluetooth devices, you need to buy a USB adapter Cirago as BTA3210 Bluetooth v2.1 EDR Class 2 Micro Bluetooth Adapter you can use a combination with a Bluetooth mouse, as Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black) Update: It seems, Acer Aspire One AOD150 build models for some Asian markets come with build-in Bluetooth. It is a pity, Bluetooth is not available for the American version. : (
Like many other early adopters, came with the laptop Built Panasonic 5800mAh, 59W battery. It lasts for 7-8hrs in the usual framework of nature, with Wi-Fi is enabled. This greater capacity of the battery boat normally (4400mAh, even 6 cells), but all have so far most of the major.
There are 3x USB 2.0 ports, 1 port Ethernet 10/100, 1 x VGA port external monitor and a single multi-format Flash Card Reader / Writer (again, our description is not properly on the 2nd SD card slot) . There is also an external microphone and headphone jacks and a Kensington Lock Slot-style.
There is also a 3G SIM card, a chip near the battery. My netBook was slit, but not 3G, there is material for the SIM card. Probably, some models are equipped with wireless technology, 3G.
Unlike 8.9 "predecessor, this 10 / 1 with a pattern of cases. I have a neoprene cover, a storage facility for a 11" laptop (Sony VAIO 11.1-inch neoprene protective case). Please note that 6 cells, the width of the battery is about 8.5 netBook. "So most of the 10" case width of about 7-8 "or are not as important or required to choose your case. In fact, I personally had two cases. The neoprene cover is in a larger 12-13 "handheld with enough pockets for the charger and cable. When I click on a coffee, I only netBook nuts and the rest in the car.
The netBook no system recovery discs. It is an Acer recovery program pre-installed, your hard drive to rest. They should do so as soon as possible. You never know when you need it. You need a CD-ROM / DVD and media (6 CD-R for the recovery system and Apps + 2 drivers, or in 2 DVD-R 1 recovery + DVD-R and Apps drivers). I bought NU Slim Super Multi Drive external USB DVD ESW860 worked well for me. It is quite close to netBook with the DVD and you can if you wish. They should be allowed, on another laptop or desktop computer with USB 2.0 interface. Update: You can also a number of new discs directly from Acer for $ 20. You need to Acer support Web site and click www.acerpanam.com United States on the map and choose "Buy CD eRecovery. It checks the serial number of your first netBook.
In addition to Windows XP Home, MS Works is a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007, a 30-day version of McAfee Anti-Virus Suite, and a few others a demo version is installed. These can be uninstalled via the Control Panel, if desired (or necessary).
On the whole I am very pleased with him and highly recommended. Of course, I can not speak here Customer Support / Service, as I do not need to use the service. If your goal is your usual applications and navigate with dignity, the screen size is the right path.

Updated: Update Atheros AR5007EG WiFi driver:
You can download version 7.6.1.244 (2/25/2009) Pilot Softpedia. Jump to drivers.softpedia.com AR5007EG and enter at the cutting edge of research. Download the zip file (ar5_ar9_7.6.1.244.zip) and unpack it. Then go to Install_CD subfolder, and run setup.exe. If you choose to update the driver. It is easy and painless ... If you still have problems with driver update, change the channel of your AP / Router. It is possible disturbance in proximity to an Internet connection wireless router / access point. Good luck!
